Reflection of Course
Taking English 110 to begin my college experience was the best decision I made. The way I was taught was completely different from what I was expecting. To be honest, I anticipated reading a book and writing essays about it, but I was completely wrong. Our class time was filled with many intriguing readings about literacy and language, and we didn’t just write essays; rather, the essays we wrote included new and sophisticated writing approaches that I can apply to my future papers. My most favorite assignment to work on was the narrative. It was the very first assignment and also the assignment that reflected where I fall in my writing abilities. I specifically enjoyed writing this piece because I was able to reminisce of my childhood and evaluate how my first experience with writing has brought me to this level. The narrative helped me to broaden and analyze my writing and reading skills with a variety of genres and rhetorical situations. My least favorite was the rhetorical analysis paper because I as a student have a lot of difficulty writing about materials I read. I chose to analyze “Nobody Mean More to Me Than You and the Future Life of Willie Jordan” by June Jordan because I felt deeply sorry for the student Willie Jordan. I aimed to effectively portray the message of racism and injustice through my analysis and by doing this I recognized key rhetorical terms and strategies in my writing.
Overall, I wouldn’t change anything about this class because from my experience this is the perfect class to take for people who are attending college for the first time.
